Every Transforming Age community has its own unique personality, culture, and story. While each community is shaped by the residents, families, and team members who bring it to life every day, strong leadership helps create the foundation where those connections can flourish.
That’s why we’re excited to launch our new Executive Director Spotlight Series, a chance to introduce the dedicated leaders who guide our communities and share the experiences, values, and passions that inspire their work.
For our first spotlight, we’re proud to feature Heidi Davis, Executive Director of Parkshore Juanita Bay.
For Heidi, leadership has always been about people.
Though her career journey began outside of senior living, the lessons she learned along the way continue to shape her leadership style today. Before entering the senior living field, Heidi spent years in operational leadership roles with organizations such as Home Depot and Best Buy, building expertise in team development, operations, problem-solving, and customer experience.
In 2012, she joined Transforming Age and quickly discovered a deeper sense of purpose.
“I could use all of those leadership and operational skills, but the work was much more personal,” Heidi shares. “We aren’t just providing a service. We are being invited into people’s lives and their stories.”
That realization sparked a passion that has kept her committed to senior living ever since. While she later gained additional leadership experience with another nonprofit senior living organization, the opportunity to return to Transforming Age and help open Parkshore Juanita Bay was one she couldn’t pass up.
“There was something really meaningful about returning to the organization where my senior living journey began and getting to build a new community from the ground up,” she says.
Helping create a community from its earliest days has been one of the most rewarding parts of her role. Heidi has had the opportunity to help shape the culture, build a dedicated team, welcome new residents, and watch a beautiful building evolve into a true community.
What excites her most isn’t any single aspect of the job. It’s bringing all the pieces together.
“Our residents, families, team members, culture, operations, and environment all play a part,” she explains. “I naturally enjoy bringing those pieces together and figuring out how we can make things better.”
Central to that vision is her passion for developing people. Heidi believes that when team members feel supported, valued, and empowered to grow, everyone benefits.
“There is something really rewarding about seeing potential in someone, giving them an opportunity to grow, and then watching them become more confident in themselves and their abilities,” she says.
That people-first mindset is also how she brings Transforming Age’s values to life each day. For Heidi, values such as integrity, teamwork, respect, grace, fun, innovation, and accountability are not just words on a wall. They should be felt in every interaction.
She strives to lead by listening, recognizing that every resident, family member, and team member brings a unique perspective and set of needs.
“Sometimes people need encouragement. Sometimes they need someone to listen. Sometimes they need clarity or accountability,” she says. “Good leadership means taking the time to understand the difference.”
Her hope is that residents feel known and valued, families feel heard and trusted, and team members feel appreciated, challenged, and proud of the work they do.
And while she takes the responsibility of leadership seriously, she also believes there’s room for joy.
“We do important work, but that doesn’t mean we can’t laugh and have fun together.”
That outlook aligns closely with what Heidi believes excellence looks like. For her, a Culture of Excellence isn’t defined by big moments. It’s built through everyday actions.
“It’s how we greet a resident when we walk down the hallway. It’s how we respond when a family member has a concern. It’s whether we stop to help a teammate who is struggling,” she says.
She is a strong believer in servant leadership and fostering an ownership mindset among team members. Rather than asking whose responsibility a challenge may be, she encourages people to focus on how they can help make a difference.
Just as importantly, she views excellence as a commitment to continuous improvement rather than perfection.
“We celebrate what is working, we’re honest about what isn’t, and then we do something about it.”
Perhaps it’s no surprise that relationships remain her favorite part of the job. One of Heidi’s top StrengthsFinder strengths is Individualization, a trait that helps her naturally recognize what makes each person unique.
Whether she’s listening to a resident share stories from a remarkable life, building trust with families, or helping a team member discover strengths they didn’t know they possessed, those connections are what matter most.
“You can have great systems and processes, and those are certainly important, but people need to know that you genuinely care about them.”
Outside of Parkshore Juanita Bay, Heidi’s life is just as centered on relationships and community. She is a proud grandmother to twin grandsons and a granddaughter and enjoys a full and active family life with her husband, two nieces, and their young godson.
Raised in Forks near Olympic National Park, she still finds joy outdoors, especially near the water. Gardening, cooking, and traveling are among her favorite ways to spend time, and she loves learning through new cultures, food, and experiences.
Her commitment to serving others also extends beyond her professional role. Heidi and her husband are actively involved with Invested in Neighborhoods, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening communities through youth development, family support, and neighborhood partnerships.
As people get to know Heidi, there is one message she hopes they take away: leadership is both a privilege and a responsibility.
“Being an Executive Director isn’t about having all the answers or being the most important person in the building,” she says. “My job is to listen, support people, remove barriers, develop our team, solve problems, and help create an environment where people can thrive.”
She wants residents, families, and team members to know her door is always open and that their feedback matters.
“We won’t always get everything perfect, but I hope people see that we care, that we’ll listen, that we’ll take responsibility, and that we’ll keep working to get better.”
That spirit of listening, learning, and serving is helping shape the culture at Parkshore Juanita Bay, creating a place where residents feel at home, families feel connected, and team members feel empowered to make a difference.
